In response to the ongoing winter storms and flooding emergency in California, Anthem Blue Cross is implementing temporary changes to health plan benefits. These changes are effective from January 23 to February 21, 2024, specifically for residents of San Diego and Ventura counties, as well as emergency responders activated to the impacted area.

- Members can receive emergency or urgent care from any doctor or hospital, regardless of the network. Claims will be processed as if they are in the plan's network.

- If healthcare facilities are closed due to the emergency, or if travel is challenging, call 833-285-4030 for assistance in finding alternative care.

Prescription Drug Refills

- Anthem plan-covered prescription medicines are eligible for up to a 30-day emergency refill at any pharmacy, even outside the network.

- For address changes affecting Anthem's home delivery pharmacy, call 833-285-4030 to ensure proper delivery.

Medical Equipment and Eyewear Support

- Assistance is available for replacing lost or damaged medical equipment (DME) by calling 833-285-4030.

- For lost or damaged eyeglasses or contact lenses, call the same number for replacement support.

Streamlined Processes

- Extended time for preapprovals, referrals, and claims filing without late fees. Call 833-285-4030 for extensions.

- Health plan premium payment flexibility for those facing financial difficulties. Call 833-285-4030 to discuss options.

Mental Health and Life Challenges

- Anthem's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides mental health support and resources. Call the 24/7 EAP crisis line at 877-208-8240.

- Additional resources for mental health support are available on the Anthem website.

- Crisis support for suicidal thoughts or emotional distress can be accessed by calling 988 or visiting 988lifeline.org.

Note: The time frame for these support measures may be adjusted based on emergency conditions. These changes apply to Anthem group health plans through employers and individual/family plans but not to Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, Federal Employee Health Benefit Plans, or fully insured trust funds.
